This is a question that was posted on Facebook today. It reminded me of a story I liked to tell my own kids.
A traveller arrived at the gate to a large city in the dessert. An old man was sitting by the gate. “What kind of people live in this city?” asked the traveller.
“What kind of people lived in the town you are coming from?” asked the old man.
“Horrible people, cold and unfriendly. They treated me like scum. They were liars and thieves. I’m glad I left.”
The old man shrugged. “The people here, you will find, are much the same.”
The traveller cursed and decided to go on his way without entering the city.
Later another traveller arrived in front of the city and asked the old man, “What kind of people live here?”
The old man asked him, “What were the people like in your native town?”
“They were wonderful, kind, caring, generous people. I left many friends when I had to leave there.”
The old man nodded. “You will find that the people in our city are very similar. You will make many new friends here.”
All the conferences are as good as you make them. If you go determined to enjoy every minute and make the most of every opportunity, ready to make new friends and new contacts that you can call on when things go wrong, you will find that the conference you went to was the very best.
And if you still can’t make up your mind, come to Agen!
